I’ve always loved Schiele’s work, especially his extraordinary line quality. As an artist who works directly with the body through body prints, I’m fascinated by his struggle to recognize himself in his own physical form. The body can be both intimately ours and strangely foreign...

In my own practice, I’m interested in what happens when the body leaves an imprint behind, what remains, what disappears, and what we project onto that trace. “I paint the wanting” resonates for sure. Sometimes we aren’t simply making images of the body. We’re trying to understand what it means to inhabit one.

I had never heard of Egon Schiele’s story before, but this was such an interesting and moving introduction to his life and work. I really enjoyed the diary format—it made the story feel very personal and brought his paintings to life in a completely different way.
